Paediatric Surgical Treatments
Acute Emergency Conditions & Treatment
Some paediatric conditions require urgent assessment and treatment. These can include appendicitis, intussusception, bowel obstruction, pyloric stenosis and complicated hernias. Early assessment helps determine the cause of the problem and whether emergency surgery is required. Where suitable, laparoscopic techniques may be considered as part of the surgical treatment.
Neonatal Surgery
Newborn babies can develop congenital conditions that require specialist surgical care. These may involve the bowel, digestive system, chest or other organs.
Laparoscopy.my provides specialist assessment and treatment for selected neonatal surgical conditions. The approach depends on the baby’s age, size, medical condition and complexity of the problem.
Minimally invasive surgery may be considered for suitable newborns when clinically appropriate. Dr Nada has a particular interest in minimally invasive neonatal surgery and has been involved in teaching and professional discussions around complex neonatal laparoscopic surgery.
Semi-Elective Surgery
Not every surgical condition requires immediate treatment. Some conditions can be assessed first and treated through planned surgery. Semi-elective surgery may include conditions such as inguinal hernia and other problems where surgical correction is required, but there is no immediate emergency. The timing and type of surgery are discussed with parents after the child’s condition has been assessed.
Childhood Tumours
Childhood tumours require careful assessment and specialist management. Treatment depends on the type, location and extent of the tumour and the child’s overall health. When surgery is required, a paediatric surgical approach is planned according to the individual condition. Further specialist care may also be coordinated when required.
01
Paediatric Thoracic Conditions & Treatments
Paediatric thoracic surgery focuses on conditions affecting the chest, lungs and other structures between the neck and abdomen.
Some children may require surgery for congenital lung conditions or other problems affecting the chest. Thoracoscopic surgery may be considered for selected conditions when appropriate. Dr Nada has experience in thoracoscopic paediatric procedures, including surgery for selected lung malformations.
02
Paediatric Urology Conditions & Treatment
Paediatric urology focuses on conditions affecting the kidneys, urinary system, bladder and genital organs.Laparoscopy.my provides specialist assessment and surgical treatment for conditions such as undescended testicles, hypospadias, hydronephrosis and other paediatric urological problems.
Treatment may include conventional or minimally invasive techniques depending on the child’s condition and the procedure required. Dr Nada’s practice includes both paediatric surgery and paediatric urology, with a special interest in minimally invasive urological procedures.
03
Minimally Invasive Surgery for Children
Laparoscopic and keyhole surgery uses small surgical openings and specialised instruments to perform selected procedures.
This approach can be used for certain paediatric abdominal, urological and neonatal conditions, as well as selected thoracic procedures using thoracoscopy. However, minimally invasive surgery is not suitable for every child or every condition. The recommended approach is decided after a specialist assessment of your child’s individual needs.
04
Treatment Planned Around Your Child
Paediatric surgery is not a one-size-fits-all approach. A child’s age, development, diagnosis and overall health all play a role in deciding the appropriate treatment.
During consultation, parents can discuss the diagnosis, investigations and available surgical options with Dr Nada. If surgery is recommended, the procedure and expected treatment pathway can be explained clearly before proceeding.
